De Beers executives to address ‘Town Hall Meeting’
Gareth Penny, managing director of the De Beers Group of Companies, and Varda Shine, managing director of De Beers’ Diamond Trading Company, will take the stage on June 3 in Antwerp at a Diamond Town Hall Meeting, during which they address and respond to questions and comments from members of the diamond industry. The Diamond Town Hall Meeting is a joint initiative of the AWDC, and its chairman Jacky Roth and CEO Freddy J. Hanard, and journalist and industry analyst Chaim Even-Zohar. It will begin at 4:00 P.M. in the Beurs voor Diamanthandel, Pelikaanstraat 78.
Inspired by traditional town meetings where community leaders debate with their constituencies, the Antwerp Diamond Town Hall meeting will enable industry stakeholders to understand how De Beers envisions the industry managing and emerging from the economic crisis, as well as the opportunities that will result in the future. Following a short presentation, Penny and Shine will take questions from the audience for a full 90 minutes. No relevant subjects will be off limit, whether it involves diamond mining, marketing, beneficiation, consumer demand, diamond financing, or anything that may be appropriate and is of interest to the community at large.
The meeting is intended for a professional audience, and AWDC has called for the participation of directors and leaders of all the diamond bourses and trade and industry associations, senior executives of all the diamond financing institutions, trade journalists, local and national political leaders, industry leaders, rough dealers, diamond manufacturers, exporters and other members of the industry. Cocktails and light snacks will be served.
