DIAMOND MUSEUM PROVINCE OF ANTWERP
Located on the Koningin Astridplein, adjacent to the Antwerp Zoo and Central Station, and within close walking distance from diamond district, is the Diamond Museum Province of Antwerp. Operated by the City of Antwerp, the multi-story facility provides an exciting insight into the history, trade and manufacturing of the famous of Antwerp’s exports, the diamond.
Using the latest multi-media technology, visitors use all their senses with interactive displays to learn more about diamonds. The audio visual presentations introduce a variety of topics ranging from the mining of rough diamonds right through to manufacturing and creating jewellery.
Those interested in the skills required to create masterpieces can watch authentic diamond cutters in the workshop area. Exhibits such as Feeling with Diamonds provide visitors with a chance to handle gems in order to discover the fine craft that lies behind the finished product.
Each floor captivates its audience with a treasure chamber of historic and contemporary diamond jewellery. These include brilliant jewels dating back to the 16th century and follow the history of different cuts and styles to present day engagement rings and the rapper’s bling. Both real diamonds as well as replicas of famous pieces such as the massive Koh-I-Noor and Cullinan I diamonds are on display.
