Masterplan - Project 2020

On February 8th 2012 the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, representative of the Antwerp diamond industry, and the Province of Antwerp present the ‘Antwerp Diamond Masterplan – Project 2020’.

The preparations of the Masterplan started in 2010. Workgroups were set up to brainstorm and to discover practical and innovative solutions to the issues confronting the industry. This is a strategic plan for and by the entire Antwerp diamond industry.
“This plan is a national plan. Because of the explicit international character of the diamond trade, it is obvious that some issues are linked to other countries, but in general this plan describes what we want to establish in Belgium and Antwerp. Also important is that this strategic plan will not be executed in the long term. By the end of 2012, 40 to 50 % of the plan should be implemented.”
Ari Epstein, CEO AWDC

“With this strategic plan, the diamond industry engages itself to a further integration in society, which makes me very happy. Antwerp has to be the heart of the city and the whole region, literally and figurative. Not only the sector has an important role in this but also the government, who has to create the necessary preconditions. This is a shared responsibility. We can all gain a lot by strenghtening our relations, dialogue and cooperation in the future.”
Cathy Berx, Governor Antwerp
