De Beers executives to address ‘Town Hall Meeting’

Gareth Penny, managing director of the De Beers Group of Companies, and Varda Shine, managing director of De Beers’ Diamond Trading Company, will take the stage on June 3 in Antwerp at a Diamond Town Hall Meeting, during which they address and respond to questions and comments from members of the diamond industry. The Diamond Town Hall Meeting is a joint initiative of the AWDC, and its chairman Jacky Roth and CEO Freddy J. Hanard, and journalist and industry analyst Chaim Even-Zohar. It will begin at 4:00 P.M. in the Beurs voor Diamanthandel, Pelikaanstraat 78.

AWDC signs deal for extra bank support

The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has signed a deal with the Antwerp diamond banks to provide temporary extra financial support for Antwerp diamond dealers. The initiative was announced during a visit of the leader of the Flemish government, Minister-President Kris Peeters. Future cooperation and initiatives by the Flemish government in support of the diamond trade were also discussed.

Jewellery auctioned for cancer research

A set of unique jewelry pieces donated by Antwerp jewellers is being auctioned by Christie’s Amsterdam in Antwerp on May 18 in an event called Charity for Clarity. The auction aims to raise money for the cancer research fund of the Antwerp Augustinus hospital, associated with the Iridium cancer network.

Rough bourse offers free daily entry

The Antwerpsche Diamantkring cvba (ADK) is allowing free entrance to its exchange hall in May and June to all diamantaires who are not members of Belgian bourses and who hold a 2009 membership card at bourses affiliated to the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The ADK is one of four diamond exchanges  located in Antwerp and has an exchange hall that is dedicated to the rough diamond trade.

Eurostar unveils new branded diamond cut: ‘Blue Flame’

Eurostar, the Belgian-Indian diamond corporation, has introduced a new branded diamond cut called the “Blue Flame. The cut has 89 facets and goes with a specially designed line of jewelry, all made for Tesiro, a partnership between Eurostar and China’s Tongling Group that runs more than 150 retail jewelry outlets in China.
