The various diamond cuts

A diamond in its original form is a rough diamond. To make a diamond sparkle, it needs to be processed. Before one can start, a thorough study should be done to determine how the largest possible polished stone with minimal impurities could be obtained out of the rough diamond. Following this study, the rough diamond will be sequentially drawn cleaved or sawn, cut and polished. The cut most commonly used is the round brilliant and was created in 1919 by Marcel Tolkowsky after some mathematical calculations of refraction and internal reflection. This cut has 57 facets. Other common cuts are: oval, princess, marquise, pear, emerald and heart.
