Epic find of 2,492 carat by Lucara: also big news in Belgium
Lucara, the Canadian mining company operating the Karowe mine in Botswana has announced the recovery of an exceptionally large 2,492ct diamond. The mine is renowned for exceptional and large diamonds of high quality, including the the 1,758 carat Sewelô and the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona.
The news was also eagerly covered by the Belgian press. Not only did they write about the fact that the stone was found and how unique this find is, they also paid extensive attention to the possibility that this beautiful diamond might one day end up in Antwerp to be polished here. We seized the journalists' interest with both hands and took this opportunity to highlight Antwerp's expertise in diamond cutting. Only in Antwerp does craftsmanship and technological innovation go hand in hand, which makes it the best place for a stone like this to pass through during its journey.
