We kicked off the new year with an outstanding first AWDC Café on Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The seminar was given to a full house at the AWDC building. We are pleased with such a high level of interest within the Antwerp diamond industry for sustainable business practices and regulatory compliance.
During the session, Sustenuto, our partner, unveiled the results of the sector-wide Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) they made for the Antwerp diamond industry. These findings offered valuable insights, which helped companies take their first steps in the complex journey of sustainability reporting.
A panel of esteemed auditors shared their expectations for CSRD compliance, and this equipped the attending companies with useful strategies to align with the new requirements.
Based on recent developments, it could be possible that the legislation may become more flexible and/or the criteria determining who falls under its scope may be adjusted. This could result in large companies in the sector potentially no longer being subject to the legislation. It is therefore important to closely monitor these developments and avoid engaging in over-compliance. AWDC will keep the sector informed as soon as there is greater clarity on the matter.
Hosting this session, we as AWDC have reaffirmed our commitment to supporting diamantaires in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape. As a industry organization , we are dedicated to helping diamond companies wherever we can, and we doe not take this duty lightly.
