Antwerp Diamond Sector Takes Leading Role in Global Natural Diamond Campaign

Luanda/Antwerp, June 10, 2025 — On Wednesday, June 18, the President of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), Isidore Mörsel, will represent the Antwerp diamond sector during a ministerial meeting in Luanda, Angola. The summit is entirely focused on broad generic marketing to promote natural diamonds worldwide. AWDC has played a central role in successfully uniting all players in the diamond value chain behind a shared ambition: to restore the value of natural diamonds among consumers and to coordinate the joint efforts needed to achieve that goal.

The summit will bring together ministers from diamond-producing countries and representatives from major trading centers. The focus will be on how to address the challenges currently facing the industry, including through joint action by all stakeholders aimed at launching a global promotion of natural diamonds. The goal is to enhance the lasting positive impact of natural diamonds on producing countries and their communities by informing, inspiring, and raising awareness among a new generation of consumers around the world about the unique and intrinsic value of (natural) diamonds.

AWDC President Isidore Mörsel already calls the meeting a milestone: “In recent months, AWDC, together with other partners, has worked hard to align all stakeholders behind the same ambition — with success. The meeting on June 18 has all the potential to become a turning point for the diamond sector. Only through a joint, sustainable effort across the entire value chain can we make natural diamonds relevant to consumers again. By better informing people and raising awareness about the intrinsic value, origin, and positive impact of diamonds on local communities, we are building a future in which diamonds become desirable to consumers once more.”

The ministerial meeting is organized by Angola’s Ministry of Minerals, Petroleum and Gas and will bring together ministers from countries such as Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, along with other stakeholders from the international diamond industry.
