‘Diamonds’ exhibition from artist Kurt Pio coming to Antwerp

South African artist Kurt Pio has established a name for himself in Cape Town, his hometown. Earlier this year, his solo exhibition ‘Cape Town’ paid tribute to the city that shaped him and continues to inspire him – Cape Town as a source of botanical and mineral riches, where diamond in its purest form originates, but also as a growing metropolis. This inspiration prompted him to paint ‘Diamonds’ – a series of stylized and at the same time realistic depictions of diamonds on shaped canvases. These works of art will soon be on exhibit in Antwerp.

‘Lifeisart’, in collaboration with Graanmarkt 13, is bringing this exhibition to the world capital of diamonds, Antwerp. In this way, the unique relation between Antwerp and South Africa as diamond centers is given an artistic expression. Furthermore, the exhibition includes the botanical studies that first brought Kurt Pio national and international recognition, as well as the exclusive portrait series ‘Boys’.

The exhibition runs from 12 September until 10 October 2015 simultaneously in the Lifeisart Gallery (between Mechelseplein and Leopoldplaats) and the gallery of Graanmarkt 13 (at the back of the Bourla Theater, first floor).

The opening reception takes place on Friday 11 September starting at 7 pm in the Lifeisart Gallery, and on Saturday 12 September starting at 5 pm in the Graanmarkt 13 Gallery, both in the presence of the artist. If you would like to attend the opening reception, stop by the AWDC PR & Communications department for tickets. Tickets will be distributed according to the ‘first come, first served’ principle.
