Whether you are travelling to a trade fair, delivering diamonds to a client, or personally carrying goods across borders, it’s essential to follow the correct customs and transport procedures. Doing so helps you avoid costly delays, penalties, or even the temporary seizure of goods..
When transporting diamonds within the EU, ensure your shipment is accompanied by the necessary documentation, such as an invoice or consignment note proving ownership, value and transaction type. If the destination or buyer is not yet confirmed, keep records of any correspondence with intended recipients or event organisers to clarify the purpose of transport. Proof of delivery and travel documentation should always be retained for your records.
For transport from or to non-EU countries, customs declarations are mandatory both upon entry and exit, and additional requirements apply for rough diamonds, including a valid Kimberley Process Certificate and sealed, tamper-resistant packaging.
