AML Exam - What you Need to Know

For the first time, AWDC, in collaboration with the FPS Economy, is organizing a large-scale AML exam. Companies that successfully pass the exam will be exempt from the annual AML certification requirement for 3 years, replacing the current AML webinar and questionnaire requirements.

To prepare diamond companies for the exam, AWDC organizes the very first Compliance Week. During this week, participants are fully immersed in the AML topic through an expert panel discussion and classroom training sessions tailored to the diamond sector.

How to prepare

You can prepare for the AML exam by attending AWDC’s Compliance Week, during which three focused Exam Preparation Sessions will equip diamond companies with the knowledge needed to succeed.

AML Exam FAQ

How do I prepare for the AML exam?

The best option you have is to register for Compliance Week and attend all sessions. A hands-on syllabus will be shared that contains all the material you need to know for the AML exam.

Will the exam be available in both English and Dutch?

Yes, the exam will be available in both languages.

Does the exam also cover the Best Practices certificate?

No, it only covers the AML certificate.

Can anyone in the company participate in name of the company?

No, the FPS Economy has a list of AML officers for all companies and only these people are able to fill out & pass the exam.

What type of exam can I expect?

The exam will be written (manually, not digitally), you will have 2 hours time to complete 25 questions. These questions will be both multiple choice as open questions. The FPS Economy will grade the exams.

Who can participate in the AML exam?

Only the officially registered AML officers of the company/companies can participate in the AML exam and obtain the passing grade to be exempt of the AML certification obligation for three years.

What is allowed during the exam?

It is not allowed to talk during the exam, cheat or use your (smart)phone.

Can multiple people participate per company? What if only one of them passes?

Multiple people can participate per company. It is sufficient if only one of them passes.

When and where does the AML exam take place?

The AML exam will take place on May 19 (Tuesday) from 10am to 12pm. The exam starts at 10am sharp, registration starts at 9am. The location for the exam is Provinciehuis, Antwerp. 

How do I get from the Diamond District to the Provinciehuis?

You can get there on foot (30 minute walk), by car (https://www.provincieantwerpen.be/nl/Provinciebestuur/provinciehuis/congrescentrum/praktisch/route-bereikbaarheid-en-parkeren) and by public transport (premetro 2 and 6 from Diamant to Provinciehuis, or bus 17 from Centraal Station to Provinciehuis)

How long do I have to wait for my results?

We are estimating that the results will be available after a maximum of 3 weeks.

If one fails, is there a second chance to pass the exam this year?

Yes, because this is the first edition, you can try again later this year. No date for this exam has been confirmed. 

What if one registered for the exam but is sick on the day or unable to make it?

This person or company can make use of the second chance later this year as well. If you fail then, you'll have to do the AML webinar and quiz online instead.

What if there are significant changes to the law in the three years you're exempt from completing the AML webinar online?

If you pass, you'll be exempt for three years no matter what.
