Quick step-by-step plan

Do you want to import polished diamonds from January 1st? Follow this step-by-step plan.

Step 1: Ask your supplier where the diamonds were originally mined.
Your supplier can confirm this by providing Kimberley Process (KP) certificate(s), a G7 or Gf number, or a declaration.

Step 2: Record this information in your own system.
Save the country of mining origin in your stock management or traceability system.

Step 3: Fill in & sign the “Due Diligence Statement on Diamond Origin”.

Step 4: Submit the ‘Due Diligence Statement on Diamond Origin’ with your shipment, together with the standard commercial and transport documentation.
Send the completed statement to your shipping company or directly to Diamond Office (diof@awdc.be). Be sure to clearly reference the correct incoming shipment.

Please note: you, as an importer, should be able to provide documentary evidence, processes, or practices implemented, proving all reasonable efforts have been made to verify the non-Russian origin. This is an ‘effort obligation’ ('best effort'), not a ‘result obligation’.

This step-by-step plan is based on information from the official European Union FAQ and represents the best possible interpretation for importing polished diamonds into the EU via Diamond Office.

Update Sanctions against Russian Diamonds - January 1, 2026

What you need to remember

  • The Due Diligence Statement on Diamond Origin applies only to companies importing polished diamonds within scope (equal to or larger than 0,5ct).
  • The document must be fully and correctly completed and submitted with each customs declaration.
  • The rule applies in all EU Member States.
  • For the import of natural rough diamonds & synthetic (rough and polished) diamonds equal to or larger than 0.5 carat, the required documentary evidence stays the same as per the last update in March 2025.
