OrigemA: the story from a small diamond mining community in the DR Congo

The DRC accounts for nearly 70% of global artisanal diamond production, yet miners there have long struggled with unfair pricing, limited market access, and a sector vulnerable to corruption and illicit trade. Launched in 2022, OrigemA is an AWDC initiative designed to change that, bringing transparency and traceability to artisanal mining in the DRC in collaboration with the DRC Ministry of Mines, NGO RESOLVE, and tech company Everledger.

But OrigemA goes beyond supply chain transparency. The project also works to improve living conditions in Congolese mining communities, promote fair trade, advance women's equality in the workplace, support peacebuilding in the region, and encourage environmentally sustainable practices.

Four years after launch, the project has reached a significant milestone: the first batch of OrigemA-traced, artisanally mined diamonds has arrived in Antwerp. They will be offered for sale at a diamond tender hosted by Bonas-Couzyn during the week of June 15th.
