There are several physical threats applicable to Antwerp diamond companies: fraud, theft, switching, robbery, burglary, tiger kidnapping … For a couple of months now, AWDC SO has observed another increasing threat: cyber crime. Examples of cyber crime include, but are not limited to: email hacks, caller ID fraud, money exchange fraud, invoice fraud, bank transfer fraud, malware attacks, etc.
AWDC SO wants to increase awareness in the Antwerp Diamond Community about the recent surge of cyber crime and offer preventive security measures. This briefing is focused on and addressed to CEOs, GMs, CFOs and staff that are mandated to order or perform financial transactions such as payments, money exchanges and transfers.
AWDC SO will organize the "Cyber Crime Awareness Briefings" on a monthly basis.
!! New!! With the S-ADA Security Awareness briefing, AWDC Security Office announces its newest monthly meeting for the benefit of CEOs, GMs and diamond brokers.
Agenda:
- Presentation of the services provided by AWDC SO to all involved in the Antwerp diamond district.
- Presentation and visualization of risks, incidents and their impact.
- Recommendation and description of effective security measures.
The AWDC Security Office (AWDC SO) and the Antwerp Local Police (LPA) work closely together to ensure the safety and security of the Antwerp diamond industry and community. Some matters of crucial importance were resolved as a result of this successful collaboration.
In the context of the "Integrated Anti-Tiger Kidnapping Program" (IATKP), AWDC Security Office announces the following monthly Anti-Tiger Kidnapping briefing, which will take place on Thursday 24 September from 11 a.m. – 12 noon in the Lounge of the AWDC building on the 9th floor. This briefing is addressed to CEOs, middle management and staff working in the Antwerp diamond sector.
Registration is based on the 'first come, first served’ principle and up to 10 people may participate. This briefing is free of charge, but anyone unable to attend and failing to notify us prior to the start of the briefing may be charged a cancellation fee of 50 euro (excl. taxes).

After more than 20 years as chairman of the Syndicate of the Belgian Diamond Industry (SBD), Eduard Denckens (73) is passing the torch. The SBD Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Bart De Hantsetters as the new chairman. Stéphane Fischler and Pol Van der Steen have been reappointed as vice-chairmen, as have Stanny Van Blerk as secretary, Lucien Cornelissens and Willy Henneuse as treasurers and Jos Heiremans as councilor. Wim Ruythooren was appointed secretary, while Eva Van Looveren and Koen Smets will sit as councilors in the SBD offices. Eduard Denckens will remain a member of the Board of Directors and has unanimously been appointed honorary chairman.
The annual International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress will be held in Antwerp from 7 to 9 September. AWDC is one of the proud sponsors of this important event dedicated entirely to sustainable and professional waste management.
