Since the City of Antwerp and the Antwerp World Diamond Centre launched the Antwerp’s Most Brilliant quality label in early 2014, 10 jewelers (12 branches) have obtained the quality label. On 10 June, two more jewelers received the label: Wim Meeussen and Gerhild Kirchner.
The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) provides strong support to a few select sporting events in and around Antwerp, specifically those that foster intercultural and international exchanges and give the Antwerp diamond industry significant exposure to the general public. The AWDC therefore decided to sponsor the Hockey World League 2015, which is an international qualifier tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Hockey is an important sport in Belgium. Our national teams are currently ranked 4th (men) and 12th (women) in the world.
The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and the Diamond Administration of China (DAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to reinforce cooperation between the two diamond centers. The MOU was signed during the Antwerp-Shanghai Investment Forum taking place in Antwerp June 3-4, which welcomes an economic and political delegation led by Shanghai Party Secretary and former mayor of Shanghai Han Zheng. The Investment Forum aims to follow up on the official visit to Shanghai by Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever, in collaboration with the Port of Antwerp and AWDC, in October last year.
The City and Province of Antwerp will join forces to create a new museum and experience center for diamonds, silver, goldsmithing and silversmithing. The province has long been working on a combined successor to the former Diamond Museum on the Astrid Square and the Silver Museum in the Sterckshof in Deurne, while the city has had the ambition to increase its promotion of Antwerp’s reputation as a global leader in the diamond industry to tourists. The joint project should meet both objectives starting in the fall of 2017.

On June 21, the first International Day of Yoga will be celebrated around the world. The Antwerp Indian Association and AWDC have joined efforts to host the first edition of this event in Antwerp.
