On 6 July, the third stage of the Tour de France departed from Antwerp. In honor of this visit to Antwerp, the Antwerp diamond industry gifted a diamond trophy to the holder of the yellow jersey that day. Designed by Willy Henneuse, the silver “A”, set with 120 brilliant-cut diamonds, went to Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara, a big name in professional cycling.
The Antwerpsche Diamantkring invites all members of the Antwerp Diamond Bourses to the first annual ‘Summer Networking BBQ’ on Thursday 16 July from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The BBQ will take place in the Bourse hall of the Kring. Registration is mandatory.
The City of Antwerp recently introduced the “Antwerp loves diamonds” map in order to demonstrate the exceptional story of the diamond trade in Antwerp to visitors and residents. Now, with the support of Flanders, the “Antwerp loves diamonds” mobile app has arrived. The application provides an overview of more than five centuries of diamond trade in Antwerp and gives useful tips for purchasing a gemstone.
The 102nd edition of the Tour de France is being held from 4 to 26 July 2015. Again this year, the Tour caravan will travel through Belgium for a few days. The Tour de France is not only the biggest cycling race, but is also the third largest sporting event in the world. On July 6th, the third stage will take the cyclists from Antwerp to Huy. At the departure of this stage, the yellow jersey holder will receive a unique diamond trophy donated by the Antwerp diamond industry.
