FiltersSunday 19 April marked the 28th edition of the Herman Vanspringels Diamond cycling race for 15 and 16-year-old future professional cyclists. The winner, Robbe Snels, went home with a diamond.
The Herman Vanspringels Diamond cycling race has been known as a top-shelf event for years. The list of past winners, including Tom Bonen, Jurgen Van den Broeck, Wim De Vocht, Jurgen Roelandts and Nicolas Maes, makes this readily apparent. The Antwerp World Diamond Centre, which believes strongly in the development of diamonds in the rough into professional cyclists, has therefore supported this event for over 14 years. As a result of his victory, winner Robbe Snels was rewarded with a sparkling diamond to take home.
On Tuesday, 28 April at 11 a.m., AWDC will organize a seminar on Immigration & Social Security in the AWDC building.
Taking into account the many business travelers the diamond sector welcomes to Antwerp every year, Be Welcome will emphasize the recent new legislation that came into force on 2 March 2015, as well as the basic legal requirements for having non-EEA nationals work and reside temporarily in Belgium.
The importance of being compliant with Belgian legislation cannot be stressed enough as the competent authorities are strictly enforcing and will continue to enforce these new regulations, including more inspections, in the near future.
This Sunday marks the 30th edition of the Antwerp Ten Miles. It is one of the most important sporting events in Antwerp and motivates tens of thousands of people to participate every year. 220 people from the diamond industry have signed up to join AWDC’s Antwerp Diamond Team. On Tuesday May 5, 2015, the 7th edition of Antwerp meets Antwerp will take place in the trading hall of the Antwerp Diamond Bourse from 9.30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
American consumers have been the most significant diamond purchasers for many years now. Sales of jewelry have taken off since the economic downturn, growing at a faster pace than the American economy as a whole. The Antwerp World Diamond Centre will be travelling to Chicago and New York from April 18 – 23 for several networking events with local diamond traders.
According to the first quarter figures from the Antwerp diamond industry, it appears that fewer rough diamonds were traded this year in comparison with the first quarter of 2014. The trade figures for polished diamonds paint a more positive picture.
On Friday 27 March, Herman Van Rompuy paid a visit to the Antwerp diamond community, delivering the keynote speech at the Antwerp Diamond Seminar on the financial challenges facing the diamond industry. The Seminar featured a lively discussion panel of financial experts who are thoroughly tuned in to the diamond industry in general and to the situation in Antwerp in particular. Public authorities at all levels are appealing to businesses and individuals to be more aware of their energy consumption in order to avoid any power shortages. In the context of the City of Antwerp’s project, “Energy for the heart of Antwerp”, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre is implementing several energy-saving measures. As a result of these measures, we will save 30,000 euro annually on our energy bill.
