AWDC in the KP

AWDC (formerly HRD) has assisted in the formulation of the Angola Certificate of Origin for rough diamonds in 1999 and has designed the Sierra Leone Certificate of Origin Regime in 2000, the Guinean Certificate of Origin in 2001, and the electronic certification of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002.  This work laid the foundation for the “WDC System for International Rough Diamond Export & Import Controls” proposed in 2000 that became the template for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.

Currently, the AWDC is a very active WDC member organization chairing the Working Group of Diamond Experts of the Kimberley Process on behalf of the WDC; it takes part in “review visits” and other expert missions for the Kimberley Process; and it shares its technical expertise with KP participants in need of technical assistance.
